|Über Mariela Cadiz:
In 1992 she graduated in Fine Arts (specialty in Painting) by the Universidad Complutense
de Madrid. From 1990 to 1991 she studied with an Erasmus grant at the Kustakademie in
Düsseldorf (Germany). In 1994 she received a Fulbright grant to study new technologies
applied to the arts at the School of Film/Video of California Institute of the Arts (CalArts) in
the USA, where she received a Master of Fine Arts degree in 1996.
Studying at Calarts she met Denis Lelong (France) and Kent Clelland (USA), with whom
she’s been regularly collaborating.
With Denis Lelong she has co-directed « Alèthéia »
(1998), a videoart piece with music by Kent Clelland, that has been projected in numerous
festivals world wide and received several awards.
In 2001 she received the grant Generaciones 2001 to produce an audiovisual interactive
installation titled « Levántate » (for which Kent Clelland collaborated with an interactive
music composition) that was premiered at ARCO, the International Contemporary Art Fair of
Madrid, in 2002.
« Levántate » has received the Second Award (Ex æquo) + the Public
Choice Award at the VIDA 5.O – Art & Artificial Life International Competition (Spain, 2002)
Her work has taken 2 parallel and complementary directions : electronic art (videoart +
audiovisual installations) and audiovisual narrative (film/video editing + directing).
She’s currently living in Paris (France) working as a director and developping interactive art
